“Orphans these last years were lucky in their misery” alleged others.
“To go from nothing to eat to eating in golden plates, indeed they were born under some lucky stars” went the rumors.
Nina begged to differ though –in those years. Orphans, in general, weren’t lucky, just the boys were. The girls were rarely adopted. For reasons best known to themselves those people with so much money just wanted to adopt boys. Thus, skinny Nina hated her gender.
However in her tenth winter, at night, came someone who wanted her. The little girl was elated. So much that when the bearded man told her to pretend to be a boy she didn’t voice a single word of complaint. It was her rebirth. He told her that her life as Nina came to an end and her life as Litaniel Delwarn could thus begin. She was now one of the Delwarn children, one of the influential families of the country.
She was stupid back then she thought. There wasn’t something like free meal under this sky.
Standing on the battlefield her whole body covered in blood, she gripped her sword tightly in her hands.
A little girl she was no more. -Nobles weren’t kind.
Stupid she was no more. -Those assassins sent by the Delwarn’s family to deal with her, she easily killed them.
Now she knew. Now she could see. And now she was going back home.
